- Sydney Weather - Sydney Pictures
Centred on the busy thoroughfare of Oxford Street, the Paddington district offers a jumble of architectural
styles, historic workers' houses, elegant colonial buildings, galleries, shops, museums and eateries.
It is the shopping here that gets the most attention from Sydneysiders, with a wide range of fashion, book and
music stores.
Paddington merges with the mixed suburb of Darlinghurst, where budget cafes, exclusive restaurants, boutique
hotels and shops all share space in the red brick residential streets.
Landmark Attractions
Victoria Barracks
- The extensive Victoria Barracks are both a well preserved example of a historic military
barracks and the greatest concentration of Georgian buildings in Sydney. The former gaol building houses
a museum of Australian military history.
Sydney Jewish Museum
- Housed in the historic Maccabean Hall, the Sydney Jewish Museum places the Holocaust in its
historical and contemporary context. Exhibitions explain the contribution of Jewish men and women who served in the First World War,
and honour the memory of those who lost their lives.
Centennial Park
- The large open spaces of Centennial Park are enjoyed throughout the year, but come alive when
sports and shows come to the Sydney Football Stadium, the Sydney Cricket Ground or Royal Agricultural
Society Showground.
