Exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art
The MCA hosts a number of unique contemporary art collections which are displayed in a changing exhibition
programme. Throughout the year several special galleries will be open, often including international,
national and Aboriginal art works. As an example, one of the touring exhibitions featured at the MCA during
2000, was the Ramingining Collection of Aboriginal Art.
Ramingining is a small
community, some 500 kilometres east of Darwin in the North of Australia. The Aboriginal peoples of Ramingining
have lived there for tens of thousands of years. The exhibition contains over 200 bark paintings, wood
carved sculptural and functional objects. These reflect a Ramingining 'Yolgnu' view of the natural
world with works representing the different natural environments and the many creatures that inhabit them.
Visit the MCA web site for information about current exhibitions.
